Tourist visas are valid for three months and cost US$60. Visas must be pre-applied thru the government web site www.migration.gov.rw.
You have to get an approval from the web site and bring the copy with you when arriving to Rwanda! You will be issued the actual visa upon arrival when showing the approval and paying US$60 at the border immigration office.
PLEASE BRING A COPY OF THE VISA APPROVAL YOU GET (Normally received in 3-5 days) WITH YOU WHEN TRAVELING TO RWANDA – THE APPROVAL WILL BE SENT TO THE E-MAIL ADRESS YOU SPECIFY WHEN APPLYING.
Based on presenting a copy of this “Visa approval” to the immigration officials upon arrival you then pay for your visa.
Currently (January 2012) the cost for a 2 week tourist visa is 60 US$ in NEW cash US$ notes - the cash has to be from the year 2006 or newer.
When filling in the application online please also be aware that where they ask for an “invitation letter” this should normally not be needed when you on the same application click that you are visiting Rwanda as a “tourist”.
If you get a reply whereby you are still asked for an invitation letter from your tour operator please let us know & we will send you one.
