Walking with the Maasai and Masai Mara Safari

08.00h - Our driver-guide will meet you at the reception of your hotel to take you out on safari. Your adventure starts here! Drive North-West, out of Nairobi via Great Rift Valley-Escarpment into the land of Maasai tribesman. Nestled on a hilltop deep in Maasai lands and overlooking vast savannah plains, Maji Moto Eco Camp is a small, environmentally-sensitive retreat. Operated by Maasai people from the nearby village of Maji Moto, a stay here will immerse you not only in the intense natural beauty of the Loita Hills, but also in the ancient culture and knowledge of the Maasai. Afternoon spent in camp orientation, guided nature walk and cultural briefing with fire making "Maasai style" presentation followed by winding down the day with camp fire stories.

After dinner, for those who prefer, Hot spring bath under the stars, can be visited. The name 'Maji Moto' means 'Hot Water', and this refers to the natural hot spring near the camp (1km). Surrounded by trees, a dip in the spring at evening is a refreshing way to soak away the days exertions. OPTIONAL: Night game-drive & Add on extra day.

Full day spent on guided wildlife tracking safari on Loita Plains with Local-School visit. Afternoon descent on foot or on mountain-bike to village centre. Evening Maasai warrior training - Fun thing!

You will start early departing with packed lunch on foot to Loita Plains for Wildlife tracking Safari. These plains host numerous wildlife like: Giraffe, Wildebeest, Zebra, Eland… as well as many different bird species. Your local Maasai guide will be your field guide full of interesting facts of wildlife and nature that you will meet. While out on these walking-safari you'll visit the Local School too (If during school opening days!. Kids and Teachers are always happy to receive some presents from their visitors (you can bring pens & pencils, colours, books, blackboard-chock or even better - educational wall-posters like world-map, human-body, spelling and similar. The school is on primary level and the kids are from 5 to 12 years old). Afternoon spent enjoying the views and nature surrounding the camp or taking another walk down to village centre to check how life runs in these remote African village (on foot or with mountain-bikes). At evening hours - Maasai Warrior training; measuring skills in Sisal stick fighting, spear throwing and archery will be organized

Start with Trekking Adventure towards Masai Mara to spend days in African wilderness guided by local Maasai tribesman.

After breakfast, your "Walking with the Maasai - Trekking Adventure" towards Masai Mara begins. The paths will lead you through wide open savannas. The wildlife population here is occasional but you will definitely be rewarded by presence of gazelles, zebras and wildebeest on your way. You will be passing Masai settlements, learning about their lives and their relationship with nature and wildlife. Your bush-camp will be set in the forest, next to a natural spring. The position of the camp is perfect in complete privacy with a good chance to watch wild game like buffaloes, wildebeest, zebra, giraffe and elephants passing by.

Day spent on walking safari getting to know the African nature, wildlife and Maasai culture in depth.

After breakfast continue with your second day out trekking towards Masai Mara. The paths will lead you through savannas, bushes and acacia forests. You will cross rivers and track wild game. The amazing scenery here is full of wildlife like antelopes, giraffes, elephants, buffaloes and even the big cats. Your second bush camp will be set under the shed of significant yellow bark acacia trees.

BUSH-CAMPSE

Each day your camp will be moved forward to meet you on the way, ready with freshly prepared and hot meals for your arrival. These bush-camps are set ahead of you and moved forward on daily basis by our support team who sets them up in beautiful surroundings of African wilderness. The camps are quite basic, but equipped with everything necessary that you might expect from these rough surroundings. Camping chairs and tables are provided, to be served with hot meals. The tents, you'll sleep in, are 3-man dorm-tents, equipped with camping-mattrace, pillow and bedding. Solar-camping Shower will be organized, except the toilet which will be out in the vast-nature of the Maasai. All you need to bring along is your day back-pack (20lit) to carry your sweat-shirt, jacket and drinking water. All the rest travels with support vehicle and the camping crew.

Morning walk to meet safari vehicle. Say by to your trekking guides. Continue into the Mara. Afternoon game-drive at Masai Mara NR, with Sundowner.

Your last day of trek will lead you towards Kenya's most well-known wildlife reserve Masai Mara. Before noon after relaxing morning of walk, you should be reaching the main road and meeting with safari vehicle. At that point you'll have to say good bye to your Maasai trekking guides and continue into the Masai Mara National Reserve with first game-drive already enroute to your camp/lodge. Afternoon game-drive till evening with well deserved Sundowner drinks served, following BIG 5 at this world's prime-Wild reserve.

MASAI MARA NATIONAL RESERVE

The Masai Mara hosts the worlds natural greatest spectacle - the Annual Wildebeest migration which occurs from June to October when the Mara becomes host to an almost unimaginable 1.7 million of wildebeest and 260 thousand zebra seeking the grasses raised by the Spring rains of April and May. NOTE: The Maasai Mara is an all year round destination with the big cats, and all the big game still in the Masai Mara Ecosystem.

Early morning game-drive. Travel back to Nairobi. OPTIONAL: FLY direct from MARA to NAIROBI or DIANI. End of service.

After an early breakfast depart on your last game-drive at Masai Mara NR enroute till park gate. Drive back towards Nairobi. Return back to Nairobi at afternoon hours with drop off at preferred place within city.
