The east coast of Zanzibar is very popular among visitors seeking beautiful beaches and tranquility and it is just like a tropical paradise with its miles of palm-fringed beaches. Compared to other regions of the island, the coral reef on the east coast is at its furthest distance from the shore and swimming is only possible during high tide.
Kiwengwa Beach - often nick named the "Little Italy" of Zanzibar - is located on one of the most pristine exclusive beaches on the east coast of Zanzibar. Kiwengwa is set on a beautiful, long beach, much of which is occupied by Italian-run resort hotels. It was one of the first places on the east coast to be developed because of its world famous crystal clear blue waters, and the fact that there is virtually no sea weed or sand bugs.
In a secluded tropical setting, the Mapenzi Beach is set above a powdery white sand beach about 50 minutes from Stone. While at Mapenzi Beach you can stay at Mapenzi Beach Club which covers an area of 4 hectares and blends in the natural environment of the adjacent landscape offering a stunning stretch of elegant lined palm trees and a long white sand beach on to the warm turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean.
